Highway into Terengganu to go ahead

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government will go ahead with construction of the highway from Chendering to Bukit Besi in Terengganu, Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said yesterday.

Part of the proposed 338km East Coast Highway, it will link Karak in Pahang.

"We have acquired the land from Karak to Lanchang,'' he said, adding that work on the Terengganu stretch would begin once the land there had been acquired.

Samy Vellu said the Terengganu government was prepared to allow the Federal Government to undertake the RM2.7bil highway.

"The terms and conditions are the same for Pahang and Terengganu.''
